This is home ground. Ballingeary sits in the Muskerry Gaeltacht, surrounded by hills that darken quickly once the sun drops behind them. On this particular evening, the sky did most of the work. A young crescent moon appeared through breaks in long, sweeping cloud layers, with that warm amber band still glowing along the horizon while the upper sky had already turned to deep blue-grey.

I liked the contrast between the dark hillside silhouette and all that colour overhead. The conifers on the left give the composition a solid anchor, and the bare deciduous trees on the right add a winter feel to the whole scene. There's maybe ten minutes where the light sits like this before it's gone entirely!

A quiet evening in a quiet valley, with just enough sky to make it worth standing out in the cold.

★★★★★

Saw this 7 years ago in Killarney in the gallery and should have bought it then. Bought it online this spring, and arrived quickly, with great communication! Has been framed, hung, and is being enjoyed! Even the framer said it was an AMAZING photograph!

This picture is magnificent in that it captures the essence of the Little Skellig Island. Every time I look at it over my sofa, I remember feeling grateful for traveling to Ireland and experiencing the way your photography mesmerized me.

I ordered Peter Cox's stunning photo of Small Skellig which now sits in my main foyer at home. I get as much enjoyment from looking at it every time I come home as I do explaining its origins to guests who remark and ask about it when they arrive!
