Elgol beach on the Isle of Skye, looking across Loch Scavaig toward the Black Cuillin. The mountains rise like dark pyramids from the far shore, their ridgelines sharp against a heavy sky. A long exposure has smoothed the water washing across the layered rock platform in the foreground, giving the whole scene a sense of stillness that wasn't really there.

What makes this work is that faint break of warm light on the western horizon, just at the base of the mountains. Everything else is muted and cold, all slate greys and deep shadow, and then this narrow band of colour slips through. It lasted maybe minutes before the cloud closed over entirely.

The Cuillin from Elgol is one of the great views in Scotland, and it rewards patience!

★★★★★

Saw this 7 years ago in Killarney in the gallery and should have bought it then. Bought it online this spring, and arrived quickly, with great communication! Has been framed, hung, and is being enjoyed! Even the framer said it was an AMAZING photograph!

This picture is magnificent in that it captures the essence of the Little Skellig Island. Every time I look at it over my sofa, I remember feeling grateful for traveling to Ireland and experiencing the way your photography mesmerized me.

I ordered Peter Cox's stunning photo of Small Skellig which now sits in my main foyer at home. I get as much enjoyment from looking at it every time I come home as I do explaining its origins to guests who remark and ask about it when they arrive!
